If you wing it, you might fall short

In today’s video blog I talk about how writing out and sticking to a daily routine has greatly improved my productivity, and I share a simple plan that you can follow too!

Where do I start???
Where do I start???

I have found when I have 30 different things in my mind that I know I need to do, I tend to not be able to focus on any of them. Until recently I was using weekly lists, which just weren’t cutting it. Working from home, writing a blog, shooting videos, doing SEO, social media, retail sales, prospecting, etc., I just find that my mind is all over the map! So I finally sat down and itemized, by the 1/2 hour, each thing I need to do each day. Β Is it working better? Yes. Β Have I perfected it? Not a chance with a 19-month-old at home, but I am WAY more focused πŸ™‚Β I am excited to get familiar with Hoot Suite for social media as well. Β I think it’s going to be something that will simplify my life further!

In this video I share the daily routine that I follow!

In reference to making daily connections, one of my friends shared a great tip to encourage me to take that first step in talking to people. He called it the “Ten Penny Challenge”, you put ten pennies in your pocket and each time you talk to someone new, you take a penny and put it in the other pocket. Once you are done, you have completed that day’s challenge. It sounds a little silly, but there’s something about what it does to your sub-conscious, that changes the way you see approaching strangers. Try it out and let me know what you think! πŸ™‚

  1. I have lists. Every night I make a list. Or I put it in my planner on a due date so it gets done. If I don’t, I’d lose my mind. I thought about creating timed blocks, but it’s not reasonable for my brain – I am constantly doing several tasks at once to reduce time.

As for talking to new people – I love that penny concept! What counts as talking though? Does a simple hello to someone new count or does it have to be like an actual exchange over dialogue – a real converation – to count? It would be a great excercise for me to overcome my social anxiety!

    1. Leila, I’m still struggling with the time blocks for sure, I always want to move onto the next thing too soon and still find myself overlapping haha. As for the penny challenge, it does need to be more than just a “hello” but can be as little as “how are you today?” or “how is your day going?”, “Did you have a good weekend?” etc. I really like it, I hope it helps you as well! πŸ™‚

  2. Ok, you count as one of my connects today πŸ™‚
I use my Google calendar religiously. I keep all my appointments there including personal appointments, like nails, exercise, doctor appts. At a glance of my week I can see where I have huge chunks of busy and free time and plan accordingly. I love the “Task” section where I can put in both the tasks with due dates — like book hotel reservation and the tasks that need to be accomplished — like complete article for publication. It allows me to set my own due dates and it then prepopulates on my calendar. Each day I see those tasks I want to accomplish and my joy is in putting a check mark in each little box!!

    1. Margaret, I love it! I’m going to have to check out the Google calendar, it sounds like something I could definitely use rather than my loose leaf paper. Sounds like a really great calendar! You sound like a busy lady πŸ™‚ Great to connect with you too! And yes, there is some great joy in being able to cross off tasks!
